Festival Film Dokumenter 2020
- Festival Notes
This year, we decided to continue to hold the Festival in order to fulfill our commitment in providing access and developing an interactive space for the society regarding documentary films. In supporting the dynamics of the Indonesian documentary film ecosystem, we take our 19th installment as a moment to support the endeavor of the development of Indonesian documentary films both in quality and quantity.
This festival is organized as a meeting point for the filmmakers and their audiences. A meeting point for the films and the framework of the festival curation. At the same time, a place to appreciate, and a networking space for the filmmakers both on a national and international scale. The meeting point and the networking space are formed through our programs, such as, Competition, Perspektif, Retrospektif, and Lanskap. To a certain extent, these programs are also aimed to observe the development of documentary films that are constantly moving, at the same to connect with the social issues in the film.
In addition to the screening platform, Festival Film Dokumenter 2020, also presents an educational-interactive space through educational agenda. This agenda offers a discussion on the educational scene of documentary films, creative and practical class on film production, as well as film distribution and medium through a program called DOC Talk.
We also provide a space for media literacy to grow in society by studying a film through our program called Film Criticism Workshop. This workshop is not initiated with a boastful intention to produce film critics. It focuses more on the capacity development of the participants in critical thinking to make a film as a study text, as well as a medium of communication.
The Feeling of Reality also complements the Festival by presenting Virtual Reality-based films. It is one of our attempts to explore the medium of documentary films in Indonesia with a main purpose to raise the awareness of the vulnerable issue of diversity.
This pandemic situation has challenged us to find an alternative way to physical gathering. One of the creative strategies that we use is presenting the website as the Festival destination. We optimize some online platforms to present the Festival programs. We don’t take this situation pessimistically. We instead find it as a new opportunity to reach a wider public audience without geographical boundaries.
We’d like to express our gratitude to the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia and the Cultural Office of Special Region of Yogyakarta, for supporting us in organizing the Festival this year. We also would like to thank Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja, Kedai Kebun Forum, and Cinema Poetica for the partnership. Last but not least, to all of you who consistently watch and follow the program organized by the Festival.
