A Daughter’s Memory

Synopsis
Indonesia, 1965: hundreds and even thousands of people are arrested without warrant. Some did come back, the others lost without trace. Svet, one of the survivors of the Indonesian dark history recounts the memory she had of her father, whom she believes to be responsible for the 1965 tragedy.

Kartika Pratiwi
Kartika Pratiwi is an independent researcher with an interest in narrative discourse on the 1965 genocide in Indonesia, Chinese-Indonesian issues and digital storytelling. She is the founder of kotakhitam Forum, an independent organization dedicated to research and documentary productions about social and political changes with the main idea to record witness and survivor accounts of the Indonesia 1965 history. She recently finished her fellowship at Alliance of Historical Dialogue and Accountability at Columbia University where she started her project entitled “Rewriting 1965 in the Digital Age,” which focuses on an interactive digital platform about the documents of mass killings in Indonesia in 1965 through stories, witness accounts, archival documents, and digital cartography. Currently, she is part of Asia Justice and Rights, a regional organisation that is recognised as a centre of excellence for human rights, justice, and accountability, based on strong knowledge and evidence, and building resilient cultures and accountable societies free from impunity.

Wulang Sunu
Wulang Sunu has been working in the world of art since 2010, and is a visual artist based in Yogyakarta. He is involved in the collective art practice Studio Batu, which has produced short films, visual performances, and visual installations. Wulang was also involved in the development of several short films, including Unlock (2012, as director), Lembusura (2014, as poster designer), Kotak Perjalanan (2014, as poster designer), In the Year of Monkey (2016, as art director and poster designer), Daughter’s Memory (2018, as director), and No One is Crazy in This Town (2019, as poster designer). Wulang collaborates with many authors as a book illustrator. Besides his artistic endeavours, Wulang spends his time finding the right partner for his dog, Teguh.
