Festival Film Dokumenter 2015
- Festival Notes
“An elephant on the eyelid can’t be seen”. This phrase surely is familiar to us. A metaphor which may feel like cliché, yet becomes actual since the information shift happens so quickly and crosses the boundaries. This matter moves FFD to conduct the spirit of RE-DEFINING in its 14th event. A stimulus for a redefining of process, spaces, and the established identity.
Festival Film Dokumenter (FFD), since its first establishment in 2002, tries to find documentaries that offer unique ways of delivering critical thoughts in captivating aesthetics. This is one of the reasons for initiating the Competition Program which stands as the festival’s main program each year. For this year, we are very excited to see a significant growth in Competition film’s quantity that reaches up to 133 films from 16 provinces. This progress surely affects the development of Indonesia’s documentary in a positive way. However, it does need further observation on how far contents and aesthetics are in accordance with its quantity growth. FFD therefore invites the audiences to participate in this observation during the 2015 festival.
Other than audiences, filmmakers also act as a vital link for FFD in building Indonesia documentary environment. In regard to this, FFD incessantly tries to create spaces for further exploration of documentary for filmmakers. This time, FFD presents a Masterclass program with a different format and curriculum compared to the previous ones. Entitled “Docs in Progress”, filmmakers are expected to plan their projects more thoroughly from pre-production phase until distribution phase, assisted by world class mentors invited by FFD.
Consistently held for 14 years, FFD would have never been able to reach its audiences without the assistance of dozens of young people working behind the screen. For the festival team, I would like to say thank you for their energy and time. And on behalf of the festival team, I shall express gratitudes towards all partners for the support given to this festival so it could keep being held in the second week of December. Also, thank you for the entire associates of FFD. To conclude all, happy 14th FFD!
