“The human body has limitations. The human spirit is boundless”. – Dean Karnazes
This year we want to celebrate the existance of documentary films in a way, which matched our festival’s theme; “No Bond No Boundaries”. Even though, we choose this theme to show and asking the existance of bond and boundaries, which are always took part in our daily life, it is not a wrong thing to interpret this theme literally. In the implementation of the 12 episode this year, FFD will expand the bond/ties and boundaries as the framework of the festival.
Other than two of our main festival programs (Indonesia Documentary Film Competition and International Documentary Film Screening), there will be another two addition programs to adorn the festival this year. Collaboration program Documenta Documenta! which was initiated by seven communities (FFD, Etnohistori, Taring Padi, SURVIVE! garage, Envicture, Combine, and Engage Media) with another five collaborator communities, will show you how human spirit is really without boundaries. This program will show you how social movement, media, and art were combined in archive exhibitions and were packaged interactively.
This year’s Presentation Program enlivened by five institutions or individuals and they will share the process and their attention in various subjects. kotak hitam forum, Engage Media, and Kampung Halaman with ILO will invite us and show how video takes part in an issue development. kotak hitam forum will present their workshop of high school students trying to interpret the history with their way. Engage Media will bring us to the daily life-experience of cities in Indonesia. Kampung Halaman with ILO will share the experience of person with disabilities in their social life. Komeil Soheili, a filmmaker and traveler from Iran, will attend the festival and he will invite us to share his story about his daily life in Iran. This Presentation Program will also be filled with film screening presented by Erasmus Huis and Erasmusindocs.
As we take the momentum of World Disabilities Day, we want to make this festival can be accessed also by person with disabilities. There will be some screening places and sessions that can be accessed for them, and volunteers that will help them to attend the screening session. This is our first step and idea,we hope in the next year we can make a better progress. This year we also use e-ticket system on every screening session in Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, so we can maping out the needs of the audience who attend the festival. We did this because we want to return the real meaning of festival as a public event. Other than that, we wants our audience to take part in Competition Program. For the first time we will gave “People Choice Award” based on the audience’s votes. We’ll gave the audiences first hand experience to appraising Indonesian documentary films. We hope this festival become a place, not just some event, where the filmmakers meet the audiences. And we wholeheartedly welcome you to this year’s Festival Film Dokumenter.
Enjoy!
