SchoolDoc

SchoolDoc is a media literacy and appreciation program that introduces documentary films to students as a space for learning, reflection, and dialogue. Initiated in 2004, this program stems from Forum Film Dokumenter’s recognition that a sustainable documentary ecosystem depends both on emerging filmmakers and a growing generation of audiences who can critically engage with reality through sensitivity and curiosity.

Based on this idea, Forum Film Dokumenter developed SchoolDoc as an encounter between documentaries and education. In this initiative, documentaries serve as a medium of learning that helps students understand their social environment, recognize diverse perspectives, and build skills in analyzing and processing information. This approach positions documentaries as an integral part of an open learning process closely tied to everyday experiences.

Throughout its journey, SchoolDoc has continued to evolve through a variety of dynamic, context-specific activities tailored to students’ needs. The program takes the form of film screenings in schools, group discussions, film appreciation and criticism workshops, student participation as community jury members at Festival Film Dokumenter, and assistance in documentary production. SchoolDoc continues to experiment to find new ways to bring documentaries to students as part of a participatory learning process.
