In the first quarter of 2025, Forum Film Dokumenter Database Program team organized a series of outreach activities to promote filmdokumenter.id platform to schools and communities in various locations. These activities aimed to introduce the platform’s key features, particularly the Educator Account, which allows teachers to access documentary films to use as teaching tools in the classroom. Additionally, the outreach efforts encouraged the film community and film appreciation practitioners to understand the platform’s potential as a distribution medium for documentary films.
The outreach activities were held in several provinces, including West Java, Central Java, East Java, Aceh, East Nusa Tenggara, and West Kalimantan. In West Java, the activities took place at Universitas Padjadjaran and at a joint forum with Perkumpulan Pendidik Broadcasting dan Perfilman Indonesia (Perdibrofi) at Telkom University, which also served as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the film community and the education sector. In East Java, the activities were held at SMK 3 Batu, SMK 2 Singosari, and SMK 1 Blitar. In Central Java, the activities were held in conjunction with this year’s Festival Film Purbalingga, which provided a broader platform for outreach to school audiences and the local film community. Meanwhile, activities outside Java were carried out in collaboration with various communities: Acehdoc in Aceh, Flobamora Film Festival in East Nusa Tenggara, and Sinema Bulanan Pontianak in West Kalimantan.
In each session, in addition to introducing the basic features, the Database team also provided a hands-on demonstration of how to use the Learning Guide. This guide is designed to help educators integrate documentary films into learning activities—for example, as discussion starters, to explore lesson topics in greater depth, or as references for specific subjects. Teachers and film practitioners participated in sessions exploring the platform and were asked to provide feedback on the interface, ease of access, content filtering by topic or subject, and how the content can be adapted to school syllabi and curricula.
The event in Purbalingga, for example, demonstrated how visual education can be delivered through documentaries, while also broadening students’ understanding of local social and cultural issues. Meanwhile, the collaboration in West Java with Perdibrofi demonstrates that this platform is not only relevant for high schools but can also serve as a collaborative bridge between universities, educators, and the film community. This highlights the direction of filmdokumenter.id’s development, which focuses not only on film distribution but also on building a documentary-based educational ecosystem.
Overall, this outreach activities received significant support and enthusiasm from educators, as well as openness from the community in utilizing the platform. As a follow-up, Forum Film Dokumenter, through its Database Program, is currently developing a public screening feature for exhibitors. With this feature, exhibitors will be able to legally access films through the platform and organize public screenings, thereby expanding the reach of filmdokumenter.id, both in classrooms and community spaces.
