My Father, Dr. G
Synopsis
After finding effective relief in medical cannabis, Amiruddin Abdullah began to treat other patients suffering from chronic diseases. When stories of his alternative treatments reached authorities, he was arrested on 36 drug-related charges, for which he is denied bail and faced the mandatory death penalty if found guilty. Fighting for his innocence and release is his daughter — in a race against time as her father begins to succumb to his illness in prison.

Hidayah Hisham
Hidayah Hisham is one of the three filmmakers of the film Ayahku, Dr. G from Malaysia. As a budding documentary filmmaker and video producer, she strongly believes in the power of film and social media as a vehicle for social change. Especially for conversations surrounding the decriminalisation of cannabis and abolishing the mandatory death penalty in Malaysia, she is mainly focused on uncovering the hidden narratives of the families who are affected by these punitive drug laws. As a child of a formerly incarcerated person who faced the mandatory death penalty under the section 39(B) charge of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, she aims to give representation and visibility to other children who have gone through similar traumatising experiences – with hopes that her film and her stories will provide them some form of consolation.
