From Island to Island
Synopsis
During World War II, Taiwan was part of the Japanese Empire. This documentary explores the experiences of Taiwanese soldiers, doctors, and overseas residents in Southeast Asia during that time. Using cross-generational memory dialogues, family letters, diaries, and videos, the film addresses the complexities of Taiwan’s historical memory and diverse identities during that period.

Kek-Huat Lau
Malaysia-born filmmaker based in Taiwan. His debut film Boluomi (2019) was in competition in Busan IFF, New Currents, and Golden horse nominated for a Best New Director. His short film, Nia’s Door (2015), won Best Short Film Award, Sonje Award at the Busan IFF, and selected for the 38th Clermont-Ferrand ISFF.
Wan-Yu Lin
A Taiwanese independent filmmaker. She often cooperates with sound art performers, choreographers, and theatre workers. Lin’s editing work, Small Talk, was nominated for Best Editing at 53th Golden Horse. Her directorial work, TPE-Tics, won Special Jury Prize at Taipei Film Festival.
