Synopsis
Inspired by Iran’s film cinema and the poetry of a feminist poet, Forough Farrokhzad, an Indian filmmaker Sreemoyee Singh sets out in search of the protagonists of Iranian cinema. And, Towards Happy Alleys (2023) is a passionate declaration of love for the cinema and poetry of Iran which also provides a frank view of daily life, bearing witness to a fearless generation raising its voice and implacably demanding its civil liberties.

Sreemoyee Singh
Sreemoyee is a filmmaker and producer from Kolkata, India. She has a PhD from the department of Film Studies at Jadavpur University. She traveled to Iran and learned Persian to film her debut documentary And, Towards Happy Alleys (2023) which launched at the Berlinale International Film Festival under Panorama section and has screened at many prestigious film festivals winning the best feature in the International Competition at BAFICI Argentina. Sreemoyee has also worked as Assistant Professor of Film Studies at St. Joseph’s University, Bangalore and a guest lecturer at New York University, Abu Dhabi (NYUAD).
