(((O))) (2022): The Sensation of Watching a Movie with Your Eyes Closed

— Film Review
FFD 2022

As an audio-visual work, a film will always come with these two combinations. So far, the discourse on film seems to only see how visuals are the only backbone that supports a film. Enjoying a movie is enjoying what it looks and sounds like; through (((O))) (2022), we are going to experience both.

The power of audio in this film will take you to explore other worlds that sometimes have nothing to do with the visible visuals. Instead of making us uncomfortable, the magic works to impress us along the film. This film offers a sense – even intimacy – that can be felt even with your eyes closed. Magically, we hear sounds familiar to us: the sound of an alarm, raindrops, and notifications through loudspeakers.

Sounds are the antennas, absorbing the vibration into the light.”

Thus, the ears not only serve a sense of hearing but can also work as the second eye. This experimental documentary based on sounds takes our ears through a variety of silent and noisy sounds. Within 24 minutes, as written by Shih Chieh Lin himself, this documentary can be watched with your eyes closed.
