Education is a fundamental and complex issue in Indonesia. The inability to fight back is a symbol of class inequality rooted in a lack of access to education. The film Tupon (Riandhani Yudha Pamungkas, 2025) attempts to bridge the voices of the marginalized through its choice of framings and activism that does not always revolve around who speaks the loudest. Instead, it can be immortalized in film as a space for empathy and a place to showcase vulnerability to be interpreted together. Through this film, the director has the authority and agenda to voice hidden realities. This session will discuss how film can represent protagonists and represent structural problems and their power to transform reality.
This discussion is preceded by a screening of Tupon (Riandhani Yudha Pamungkas, 2025) and will be attended by Wignya Cahyana (Paku Bangsa) dan Vincentius Dandy (Lingkar Keadilan Ruang).
