The Song Of Grassroots

Synopsis
Fajar Merah (21 years old), son of Wiji Thukul, together with his band Merah Bercerita gathered in 2010 and the support of his family, try to bring back his father’s poems to life through songs. During the 2014 Indonesia Presidential Election, a new hope was born in the form of the new presidential candidate Joko Widodo: to solve Human Rights violation cases, to find Wiji Thukul and the rest of the lost.

Yuda Kurniawan
Yuda Kurniawan is an Indonesia based documentary filmmaker. He is the founder Rekam Films, a film company based in Depok, West Java. His films have been screened in various film festivals both domestic and overseas and has won several awards, one of them is NETPAC Awards. Some of his films include Pesantren Way’s of Dakwah (2016), The Ballads of Cinema Lovers (2017), and The Song of Grassroots (2018). His newest film, Roda-Roda Nada (2022) follows a struggling street musician in Indonesia.
