Notes on Competition Program
As a genre, documentary has transcended its definition as cinema, even the medium itself. The syntax of the films in this year’s Competition program has tested its various perspectives, ideas, and aesthetics. The genre has crossed the boundaries of narrative and nonnarrative prose that not only tests film festivals as a window, but also the audience’s interpretation in blending the documentary form itself. The ever-growing challenge is how to see the filmmaker’s critical perspective on all their explorations and achievements, with suitable methods and modalities through the right dosage.
