As a young man born in the early 2000s, I still knew the kind of afternoons filled with the joy of being outside with friends rather than being stuck with gadgets. Starting from games that use some equipment, such as marbles, kites, or bekel<\/em>, to those without any equipment, such as hide and seek, garasin<\/em>, and sondah<\/em>. Everything felt very exciting, especially the laughter and pure joy that came with some games that required us to sing before the game started.<\/p>\n

Sadly, time no longer allows me to play those games. I believe the last time I played that game was when I was in elementary school. Then, the memories of all those games suddenly went away. However, Our Rangsot<\/em> (Dhuha Ramadhani, 2025) compelled my mind to recall memories of my childhood games.<\/p>\n

Our Rangsot<\/em>, trying to unravel the story of old games. Within 90 minutes, Ramadhani directs the protagonists to speak again, sing, explain, interpret, and play old games that seem to be rarely played today. The protagonist of the film is dominated by mothers and fathers, Ramadhani hints at a condition that is happening now. Almost no children are still playing those kinds of games. Even in the necessity of introducing a child protagonist, Ramadhani opted for a narrative that subtly reveals how today’s society shapes a delusive excitement of social media for children.<\/p>\n

\"Our<\/p>\n

Through his chosen exploration, Ramadhani provides a technical perspective that is quite unique in some parts. Visual exploration provides many<\/em> shots recorded by children, giving the experience that the audience is in the playroom. In several other chosen shots, Ramadhani immerses himself in the film and includes some images that do not relate to the film, bringing the feeling of closeness as if the audience is involved in the activities presented in the film.<\/p>\n

\"Our<\/p>\n

The film opens with a coffee brew and closes with an audiovisual, picturing the protagonist playing that game. They appear to be chatting warmly and enjoying the rest of the day, reminding us of the afternoon activities typically done once the main work is finished.
