Silence in the beginning of the sentence signifies the director\u2019s decision to let fragments of videos tell the story that speaks to viewers&#8217; hearts through the absence of dialogue. Those fragments of videos seem to be voicing the sound of tears and wails of victims, as it became a heart-wrenching ballad, highlighting the tragedy&#8217;s profound impact on the casualties&#8217; lives.<\/p>\n<p>Through <em>The Whistle Starts Whispering<\/em> (2023), viewers are invited to see expressions of loss adorning the walls of Kanjuruhan Stadium. Expressions such as \u201cmy friend has gone\u201d, \u201c<em>hati yang luka<\/em>\u201d (wounded hearts), \u201c<em>usut tuntas\u201d<\/em> (investigate till\u2019 the end), and \u201c<em>gas air mata vs. air mata ibu<\/em>\u201d (Tear gas vs. a mother\u2019s tears), are not mere words, but they are cries of justice echoing eternally through the silent hallways of Kanjuruhan.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/53288890489_e5698bc4c0_b.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In a deeper look, this documentary also reflects the irony of humanity when fellow human beings who should have been united regardless of position or status underwent unfair treatment from those who were put to protect them.
