Here’s a daily guide of today’s FFD, Monday, December 2nd, 2019, in a chronological order. Made just for you. Are you ready?<\/span><\/p>\n

There are two films screened simultaneously: <\/span>48 years: Silent Dictator<\/span><\/i><\/a> (2018) and <\/span>Silvia<\/span><\/i><\/a> (2018). Tough choice, but let us help.<\/span><\/p>\n

48 years: Silent Dictator <\/span><\/i>(2018) is a part of <\/span>Perspektif<\/span><\/i> program highlighting Mental Health. You’ll join in the story of Iwao Hakamada, an ex-pro boxer who did the longest prison sentence in history, forty-eight years. Through an interview with Hakamada, the film tries to capture Hakamada’s psychological condition, which is not exactly ideal. Go see this film screened at Societet Militair, Taman Budaya Yogyakarta.<\/span><\/p>\n

Silvia (2018)<\/span><\/i>, on the other hand, is a film of Maria Silvia Esteve, a finalist of International Feature-length Competition of FFD 2019’s Documentary Competition. It records the experiment of one of Silvia’s children who tries to reconstruct Silvia’s regretful and sorrowful life. Watch this in Auditorium IFI-LIP Yogyakarta, and you could participate in the Q&A after.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are also two exhibitions to attend in Lobby Societet Militair Taman Budaya, one is a virtual reality (VR) documentary exhibition from <\/span>The Feelings of Reality<\/span><\/a> program while the other is an exhibition of documentaries made by high school students presented by <\/span>SchoolDoc<\/span><\/a> program. Over there in Kedai Kebun Forum, you can visit Sensory Ethnography: Eye Witness (hyperlink) exhibition. All of these exhibitions are open until 9 p.m., so, there’s no hurry.<\/span><\/p>\n

2.45 p.m.<\/b><\/h2>\n

240BPM++<\/span><\/i><\/a> (2019)<\/span> will be screened at this time in Societet Militair, Taman Budaya Yogyakarta. This is one of the films that made it to the <\/span>Indonesian Feature-length Documentary<\/span><\/a> category of this year’s Competition.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you chose to see <\/span>Silvia<\/span><\/i> (2018) earlier, you’ll have to skip this screening for today. But don’t worry, another screening of <\/span>240BMP++ <\/span><\/i>(2019) will be there again on Desember 5th, 2019 at 9 p.m. in Ampitheatre TBY.<\/span><\/p>\n

Have a seat at Kedai Kebun Forum and let’s join <\/span>Community & Society<\/span><\/i><\/a> panel session of<\/span> DocTalk entitled \u201cAssembling in a Safe Space: Rethinking Forms and Prevention of Violence within Communities”. It’ll mainly discuss the forms of violence that may happen (or have happened) within communities. Everyone can share their own experience, prevention and coping tips, or even exit strategies. This session will delivered by Vauriz Bestika (initiator of <\/span>Sinematik Ngga Harus Toxic<\/span><\/i>) and Ayu Diasti Rahmawati (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM).<\/span><\/p>\n

If you prefer animated documentaries, you could come over to Auditorium IFI-LIP and watch <\/span>The State Against Mandela and the Others<\/span><\/i><\/a> (2018) on 15.15. This film will take you to the center of court room attended by Nelson Mandela in 1963 and 1964.<\/span><\/p>\n

4.15 p.m.<\/b><\/h2>\n

Before the sun sets, Societet Militair, Taman Budaya Yogyakarta invites the audience to watch <\/span>Last Night I Saw You Smiling<\/span><\/i><\/a> (2019). This work of Kavich Neang is one of the finalist of International Feature-length Competition of FFD 2019. The film takes us to remember Phnom Penh’s White Building, a housing block witnessing the country’s extraordinary moments, from the golden age, the radical regime’s lasting traumatic events, the resurgence, to the unstoppable capitalistic development rapid rate that eventually leads to its eventual demise.<\/span><\/p>\n

6.30 p.m.<\/b><\/h2>\n

Now that it is night, you can head over to Societet Militair Taman Budaya Yogyakarta to see the entire finalists of <\/span>Short Documentary Competition<\/span><\/a> of FFD 2019. There are <\/span>Diary of Cattle<\/span><\/i> (2019), <\/span>More Than Work<\/span><\/i> (2019), <\/span>Luar biasa<\/span><\/i> (2018), dan <\/span>Irama Betawi<\/span><\/i> (2019).<\/span><\/p>\n

Diary of Cattle<\/span><\/i><\/a> (2019) takes you to a day in the life of cattles spending their day feeding off of a landfill, even often spending the night there.<\/span><\/p>\n

Luvianna Ariyanti’s <\/span>More Than Work<\/span><\/i><\/a> (2019) reveals the dark side of the media industry in Indonesia. From two perspectives, this film attempts to record the exploitation and discrimination suffered by female and sexual minority group workers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through <\/span>Luar Biasa<\/span><\/i><\/a> (2018), you are brought to follow the story of Joko Supriyanto, a Blind person living his life as a student of Special Needs High School Cepogo, Boyolali.<\/span><\/p>\n

Irama Betawi<\/span><\/i><\/a> (2018) tells the story of the titular <\/span>ondel-ondel <\/span><\/i>group that is still performing in Jakarta. Have a seat and see the daily lives of a traditional performance arts group dimmed by the capital city’s festivities.<\/span><\/p>\n

7.00 p.m.<\/b><\/h2>\n

If your supper takes longer to finish, you might want to catch one of these two films: <\/span>Love Talk<\/span><\/i><\/a> (2017) or <\/span>A Donkey Called Geronimo<\/span><\/i><\/a> (2018).<\/span><\/p>\n

Love Talk<\/span><\/i> (2017) is also a part of <\/span>Perspektif <\/span><\/i>program focusing on mental health issues. Through this film, you’ll see that love alone is not enough to keep a marriage; there are a lot more complexities in there. Don’t miss this screening in Amphitheatre Taman Budaya Yogyakarta.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the other hand, <\/span>A Donkey Called Geronimo <\/span><\/i>(2018) tells the story of pirates in one of Baltic Sea islands. Leading a life of freedom eventually has to take a reality check to go back to the real world. This film is one of the finalists of <\/span>International Feature-length Documentary Competition<\/span><\/a> of FFD 2019 and will be screened at Auditorium IFI-LIP Yogyakarta. Don’t miss the Q&A session afterwards.<\/span><\/p>\n

To conclude your lovely evening, we present you <\/span>The Stranger<\/span><\/i>s<\/span><\/a> (2018), a film that follows a woman’s nostalgia of her hometown, capturing the gradually fading portraits of a family.
