FFD takes place in alternative spaces with the aim of reaching a wider and more diverse audience. <strong>The upcoming 25th edition of FFD will be held on November 20\u201327, 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ffd.or.id\/download\/FFD%202026%20Film%20Submission-Rules%20and%20Regulation.pdf\">Access document as a downloadable file (pdf).<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Guidelines for Film Submission<\/h2>\n<p>In this section, you will find the film submission guidelines for FFD 2026. Please note the following terms for reference: (a) FFD, Festival, Forum, refers to the festival organizer; (b) Applicant, refers to the individual submitting the film; (c) Film(s), refers to the submitted audiovisual work; (d) Third Party, refers to parties outside of the Applicant and the Festival; (e) Program, refers to the Festival\u2019s activities related to the screening of Films.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3>Program Categories and Eligibility Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>Each submitted Film may select one of the five available submission categories. FFD reserves the right to determine the eligibility of each submitted Film within a specific Program or submission category. The descriptions and qualifications for each submission category are as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h4>International Feature-Length Competition<\/h4>\n<p>International Feature-Length Competition represents the Festival\u2019s commitment to global documentary practices. For more than two decades, this Program has presented films with diverse perspectives, distinctive narratives, and bold cinematic approaches.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Film must be completed between 2024\u20132026<\/li>\n<li>Running time above 40 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Films submitted in this category <strong>must be<\/strong> produced by a producer and\/or director who is not an Indonesian citizen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Indonesia Feature-Length Competition<\/h4>\n<p>Indonesia Feature-Length Competition reflects the Festival\u2019s commitment to supporting and celebrating the development of Indonesian documentary filmmaking. The Festival consistently presents Indonesian documentary works that offer diverse perspectives, fresh approaches, bold storytelling and narratives that engage with socio-cultural contexts.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Film must be completed between 2024\u20132026<\/li>\n<li>Running time above 40 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Films submitted in this category must be produced or co-produced by a producer and\/or director who is an Indonesian citizen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Short Competition<\/h4>\n<p>The rapid global development of short documentaries as a dynamic medium opens limitless possibilities for exploration. Short Competition celebrates the strength of short-form documentary in delivering ideas concisely with a strong artistic vision and bold approach.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Film must be completed between 2025\u20132026<\/li>\n<li>Running time up to 40 minutes<\/li>\n<li>No restrictions on country of production or filmmaker nationality<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Student Competition<\/h4>\n<p>FFD aims to provide a platform for emerging filmmakers to observe, comprehend, and define the issues that affect their communities. This category is dedicated for Indonesian student filmmakers with an explorative and bold spirit in addressing current issues through documentary filmmaking.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Film must be completed between 2024\u20132026<\/li>\n<li>No duration restriction<\/li>\n<li>Films must be directed by an Indonesian high school or university student filmmaker<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Noncompetition<\/h4>\n<p>This Program is designed to explore developments in documentary language, themes, approaches, and technologies. Films submitted <strong>must be<\/strong> completed between 2024\u20132026. The Program has no restrictions on the country of production, filmmaker nationality, or running time. FFD reserves the right to consider, determine, and select submitted films within the Noncompetition Program, including but not limited to the following sections:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Perspektif<\/strong><br \/>\nThis Program presents documentaries that highlight the latest issues across different parts of the world. Through a reflective and confrontational approach, the films in this Program seek to interpret the social, political, environmental, cultural, and humanitarian dynamics that are unfolding today.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spektrum<\/strong><br \/>\nThis Program welcomes creative works that challenge conventional boundaries within documentary practice through diverse visual approaches, narrative structures, artistic techniques, and storytelling methods.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lanskap<\/strong><br \/>\nThis Program explores various discourses present in and about Indonesia. This Program features films that document, reflect on, and critically examine the social, cultural, historical, political, and humanitarian dynamics of present-day Indonesia. Lanskap serves as a space for reading the complexities of Indonesian identity and experience.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Utopia\/Dystopia<\/strong><br \/>\nThis Program highlights the latest developments in feature-length documentaries across the globe. Films in this Program demonstrate how feature-length documentaries continue to evolve as a medium to examine reality, articulate artistic vision, and imagine possible directions for the future.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Docs Docs: Short!<\/strong><br \/>\nThis Program highlights the latest developments in short documentaries across the globe. Films in this Program demonstrate sharp ideas and agile responses to.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Submission Deadline and Fees<\/h3>\n<p>FFD only accepts Films submitted through FilmFreeway via\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/filmfreeway.com\/ffd\">https:\/\/filmfreeway.com\/ffd<\/a>\/ under the terms and conditions as described. FFD offers submission fee waivers for Films directed and\/or produced by Indonesian citizens. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that the selected submission category corresponds with the Film\u2019s qualifications. FFD reserves the right to recommend, review, reassign, or determine the appropriate category for any submitted Film. Program-specific terms and conditions are listed in <a href=\"https:\/\/ffd.or.id\/en\/legal\/rules-and-regulations-for-film-submission-festival-film-dokumenter-2026\/#program-categories-and-eligibility-requirements\">section (1)<\/a> of this document.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>FFD only accepts Films submitted through the FilmFreeway (<a href=\"https:\/\/filmfreeway.com\/ffd\">https:\/\/filmfreeway.com\/ffd)<\/a> with a completed submission form. The Applicant is fully responsible for providing digital preview access to the Film for selection purposes via FilmFreeway. Applicants may also provide an external screening link through their FilmFreeway Project Page.<\/li>\n<li>Films that have had commercial public release in Indonesia or have been widely available on major OTT\/VOD platforms prior to the Festival may not be eligible. Films that have only been screened at festivals or limited online festival platforms remain eligible.<\/li>\n<li>FFD only accepts Films submitted by the copyright holder, rights holder, or authorized distribution representative. The Applicant must ensure that all necessary permissions have been obtained for the use of copyrighted materials contained within the Film. FFD shall not be held responsible for any copyright infringement claims made by Third Parties. FFD reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film with any unauthorized inclusion of copyrighted content or materials.<\/li>\n<li>It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to clear the Film\u2019s content from any and all actual or potential legal claims and issues, including and without limitation to defamation, privacy rights, publicity rights, trade secrets, breach of trust, confidential relationships, or other legal claims. FFD reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film with any unauthorized inclusion of copyrighted content or materials.<\/li>\n<li>It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to guarantee that the Film, preview materials, publicity materials, and all supporting information provided are accessible. FFD reserves the right to disqualify, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant, any Film that cannot be accessed due to technical issues, caused by the Applicant or any Third Party system.<\/li>\n<li>Films containing linguistic content and\/or spoken dialogue, including without limitation English, must provide embedded English subtitles. Applicants may submit Films that contain on-screen text as an artistic choice.<\/li>\n<li>Upon completion of the selection process, FFD will attempt to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the submission form to notify the Applicant of the Film\u2019s acceptance status. It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that the contact information provided is correct. FFD disavows any responsibility for, and will not be held responsible for, any failure to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the submission form.<\/li>\n<li>FFD is not obligated to provide comments, feedback, or explanations regarding the selection status of any submitted Film to the Applicant or any Film representatives. Information regarding the Films selection method, views on Films, or other information related to the selection process, considerations, and\/or deliberation of the selection related to Films is subject to the Program\u2019s confidentiality policy. FFD is not responsible for, and will not be held accountable nor liable for, any internal comments or feedback regarding submitted Films; any communication by any FFD or Forum representative regarding films or anything related to the Film selection process.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants acknowledge that FFD is a film festival held in alternative spaces, therefore Applicants are subject to all guidelines and practices in managing Films selected for the Program, including screening arrangements, screening schedules, screening frequency, and other related matters. If the Applicant refuses to screen the Film in a manner deemed necessary by FFD, FFD reserves the right to revoke the Film\u2019s selection status and Festival invitation given to the Applicant, without refund of any or all submission fees previously collected from the Applicant.<\/li>\n<li>By submitting a Film, Applicants agree that the provided information may be saved indefinitely in FFD and Forum database for archival and research purposes. Any other forms of Film management not mentioned in this document will be communicated by FFD and\/or Forum to the Applicant.<\/li>\n<li>By submitting a Film, Applicants grant FFD permission to use Film\u2019s excerpts, stills, or other related material contained therein for promotional purposes without limitation in time or territory, if the Film qualifies for selection. This also includes distribution to news media (television, radio, podcasts, social media, and other multimedia formats) for noncommercial use.<\/li>\n<li>FFD reserves the right to withdraw a Film\u2019s selection status if the Film is found to pose potential risks or damages to the Festival or its affiliates.<\/li>\n<li>Applying to participate in FFD 2026 constitutes acceptance of all Terms and Conditions stated in this document. In the event of discrepancies between language versions, only the Indonesian version shall prevail.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Guidelines for Selected Films<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3>Selection Announcement<\/h3>\n<p>Selected Films will be announced no later than <strong>September 28, 2026<\/strong> via the contact email provided during submission. Selected Films will receive an official invitation to participate in FFD 2026.<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Festival Materials<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h4>Deadline<\/h4>\n<p>Film materials must be submitted to the Festival by <strong>October 13, 2026.<\/strong> This deadline applies to all selected Films. Submitted materials requirements will then be checked in preparation for the Festival.<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Screening Material<\/h4>\n<p>Image format: H.264 format, 1080p, Full HD, 2K, or maximum 4K resolution<\/p>\n<p>Audio format: AAC, Stereo 2.0 (L\/R), 48 kHz sample rate. FFD will screen Films in stereo<\/p>\n<p>Screening copies must be delivered via downloadable link. The link must remain accessible and any password (if applicable) must remain valid until <strong>November 27, 2026<\/strong>. FFD does not cover any costs related to the Film materials delivery.<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Subtitle<\/h4>\n<p>All Films will be screened in their original language with English subtitles, including films in English. Films must be delivered with English subtitles, either as a separate subtitle file or hardcoded. If subtitles are hardcoded, they must be placed within the active image area, not the black box. Please note that the image may be cropped up to 3% during projection depending on the projector position and venue configuration<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>Publication Material<\/h4>\n<p>Selected Films will be promoted using the information provided in the submission form. Festival publications will feature Film original title, international title, trailer\/excerpt, production country, language, production company, Film contact, and director\u2019s and producer\u2019s photos and profiles. All publication texts related to the Film will be written by FFD.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Screening Schedule<\/h3>\n<p>The public and press screening schedule is solely determined by FFD. The screening schedule will be sent to Film Delegates via email and announced publicly through FFD\u2019s website and social media channels.<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>Festival Attendance<\/h3>\n<p>FFD invites directors and producers of selected Films as Film Delegates to attend the Festival. Film Delegates will receive complimentary Festival accreditation.
