The Qatar World Cup is about to begin and I travel from Santiago to Buenos Aires with a specific purpose: to go from bar to bar watching Argentina\u2019s matches and drink as much alcohol as possible. Things quickly get complicated: Argentina takes all of five minutes to lose their opener against Saudi Arabia, and a few days later the worst happens: a drunk driver hits my brother as he was walking home from the night school in San Ram\u00f3n where he was working at the time. His body is thrown twenty feet and nobody knows whether he will suffer brain damage or ever walk again. What was going to be a documentary about soccer and alcoholism becomes a visual essay starting in Santiago, passing through Buenos Aires, and ending in New York, about family relationships and the fleeting nature of our time in this world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>November 2022.
