Animated Documentary: Visualizing the Unimaginable Reality

  • 7 films

SPEKTRUM

Every medium or method of storytelling offers a freedom as well as diverse challenge. Animation becomes a new language to deliver the unimaginable vocabulary of documentary films. If we agree that imagination, dream, and memory are part of daily reality, then, animation is perhaps a perfect medium to tell story. In other case, animation can be an alternative form to portray the horror or trauma of the past which the archives of pictures/texts or interviews could not portray as strongly.

The discourse of animated documentary film has been developing in numerous film festivals in the world. However, it will be the first time for FFD to present an exclusive program for animated documentary films.

FFD presents three feature-length animated documentary films and four short animated documentary films, which will not only entertain the audience to enjoy its stories, but also invite them to observe the specific functions of animation in each film.
