Virtual Reality

Everyone can have any form of disability, be it physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, growth, and even the combination of those. Even though we might be familiar with that, there are tendencies to ignore them. We are trying to invoke consciousness inside all of us while trying to give a picture on how hard people with disability to access public spaces. We realize that the effort to provide access or to remind public the rights of the disabled has been very little to give significant effect.

We want you to join us to discuss how Virtual Reality (VR) technology can give significant impression to our compassion. Two works in this program present an alternative finding on how the disabled can overcome their disabilities. The interaction with Jane Gantlett’s In my Shoes: Dancing with Myself will offer special experience and POV; how the mixture between cinema, theatre, and technology all blended into the VR medium.

Notes on Blindness (James Spinney and Peter Middleton) is a documentary of John Hull’s process of harnessing his sensory ability after he lost his sight in 1983. Arnaud Colinart and Amaury La Burthe then respond with their Virtual Reality’s Notes on Blindness: Into Darkness. It is an extraordinary travelogue documentary in a blinded world; a touching testimony on John Hull’s phases of losing and re-discovering.

This program is a collaboration between Festival Film Dokumenter and British council as a part of UK|ID 2016 program. Both In My Shoes Dancing with Myself  and Notes on Blindness: Into Darkness can be openly accessed.
