Call For Entry 2024

Festival Film Dokumenter (FFD) is looking for the latest creative and thought provoking documentaries from all over the globe to meet the FFD audience on its 23rd edition. FFD will be held offline on 2–9 November 2024 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

REGISTRATION REGULATIONS 

 

Deadline and Registration Fee

Registration will be open on March 1–July 20, 2024 at 23.59 WIB (UTC+7). No entry fee is required for each film submission.

Screening Fee

FFD does not cover screening fees for all submitted films.

Competition Program 

A selection of films will be nominated for this year’s competition program. The jury will deliberate the best films to be awarded in the following categories:

1. International Feature-Length 

  • Entries are open for films with producers and directors other than Indonesian citizens.
  • The length of the film is above 40 minutes (including opening and credit title). 
  • The film has been or will be completed in 2022-2024. 
  • The film (both for screening and preview copy) must be equipped with English subtitles (hardsub), including for films with the primary language of English. 
  • The registered film has never been or is not currently being screened publicly on digital platforms including and not limited to OTT services platforms and other streaming services.

2. Indonesia Feature-Length

  • Entries are open for films with producers and/or directors with Indonesian citizens. 
  • The length of the film is above 40 minutes (including opening and credit title). 
  • The film has been or will be completed in 2022-2024. 
  • The preview copy must be equipped with English subtitles (hardsub), including for films with Indonesian and/or native spoken language. 
  • The screening copy must be equipped with English and Indonesian subtitles in separate files (.srt), including for films with Indonesian and/or native language. 
  • The registered film has never been or is not currently being screened publicly on digital platforms including and not limited to OTT services platforms and other streaming services.

3. Short

  • Entries are open for films with producers and/or directors with Indonesian citizens. 
  • The length of the film is below or is 40 minutes (including opening and credit title). 
  • The film has been or will be completed in 2023-2024. 
  • The preview copy must be equipped with English subtitles (hardsub), including for films with Indonesian and/or native spoken language. 
  • The screening copy must be equipped with English and Indonesian subtitles in separate files (.srt), including for films with Indonesian and/or native language. 
  • The registered film has never been or is not currently being screened publicly on digital platforms including and not limited to OTT services platforms and other streaming services.

4. Student

  • Entries are open for Junior High School, High School, or Vocational School students with Indonesian citizens. The directors and the film crews had student status during the film production period proven by attaching a copy of student card and/or an official letter authorized by the school. 
  • There are no duration restrictions. 
  • The film has been or will be completed in 2022-2024. 
  • The preview copy must be equipped with English subtitles (hardsub), including for films with Indonesian and/or native spoken language. 
  • The screening copy must be equipped with English and Indonesian subtitles in separate files (.srt), including for films with Indonesian and/or native language. 
  • The registered film has never been or is not currently being screened publicly on digital platforms including and not limited to OTT services platforms and other streaming services.

Noncompetition Program 

FFD will select entries for the Noncompetition program including Perspektif, Spektrum, Lanskap, Utopia/Dystopia, and Docs Docs: Short! Each program has different themes and propositions as an effort to find a variety of discoveries in documentary film language, approaches, and technology.

  • Entry is open to the public for all ages and citizenship.
  • There are no duration restrictions. 
  • The film has been or will be completed in 2022-2024. 
  • The preview copy must be equipped with English subtitles (hardsub), including for films with English, Indonesian, and/or native spoken language. 
  • The screening copy must be equipped with English and Indonesian subtitles in separate files (.srt), including for films with English, Indonesian, and/or native language. 
  • The registered film has never been or is not currently being screened publicly on digital platforms including and not limited to OTT services platforms and other streaming services.

Film Material Guidelines

For the requisite of festival program presentation, please provide the required materials below:

  1. Screening and Preview Copy

    • The preview copy must be submitted with English and/or Indonesian hard subtitles (for films with local language subtitles) and passwords (if any). The preview copy link must remain active until the end of the festival period. 
    • The screening copy must be submitted in H.264 file format in 1080p, 2K, or maximum 4K resolution with stereo or double stereo sound. If your film is screened in analog format, please contact the festival through the contact details listed. 
    • Films submitted to the International Feature-Length Competition must be equipped with English subtitles (hardsub), including films with English spoken language.
    • Films submitted to programs other than the International Feature-Length Competition must be provided with separate English and Indonesian subtitles files (for films with native spoken language) in .srt format.
  2. Publication Materials

    • English and Indonesian synopsis (for films with Indonesian production country(-ies) status) maximum 400 characters.
    • Three still images in .jpeg/.jpg format in 16:9 ratio with a maximum size of 5 MB.
    • Trailer, teaser, or film excerpt in .mp4 hardsub and downloadable format. 
    • Director profile photo in a headshot facing front, color, .jpeg/.jpg format in 1:1 ratio with a maximum size of 3 MB. 
    • Director’s biography in English and Indonesian (for Indonesian filmmakers) maximum 300 characters. 
    • Publish email address (film contact person) that can be contacted and published.
    • Film’s and/or filmmaker’s social media account that can be contacted and published.

Film Selection and Announcement

  • The films submitted will be selected by our programming team consisting of film practitioners, film scholars, and academics to assess the most suitable program for the films. 
  • FFD will notify you of the decision on your film’s selection status by email no later than early September 2024. 
  • Once your film has been selected, your entry is irrevocable. 
  • Any information regarding your selected film status cannot be made public until the festival launches an official public announcement. 
  • Film selection decisions are final.
  • FFD does not cover any expenses related to the submission of any film materials.

Screening Information 

This year, FFD will be held on November 2-9, 2024 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. FFD uses alternative spaces to reach a broader and more diverse public. All festival programs are intended for the general public and are free of charge.

Festival Authority 

After the film selection is announced, FFD has the right to:

  • Edit and translate all written material provided by the filmmaker including synopsis and biography.
  • Use film clips and all audiovisual material up to a maximum of 3 minutes for publicity. 
  • Use all submitted publicity materials and other publicity kits to promote the festival without any charges. 
  • Adjusting the file to accommodate the technical specifications of the screening. 
  • Record all activities and discussions for festival documentation as archiving purposes and publicity. 

Please Note 

  • Submitting your film means agreeing to all the rules and regulations listed in the Entry Guidelines. Infringement of the Registration Regulations may result in disqualification.
  • Festival is not responsible for infringement and accusations of copyright film submitted. It is within the festival’s right to cancel the participation of a film involved in copyright infringement. 
  • Festival reserves the right to modify or substitute the rules and regulations listed in the Entry Guidelines when necessary. 
  • Festival reserves the right to cancel the film selection status with/without prior notice, if we discover any potential losses that may arise from organizing the festival relating to films and/or filmmakers.
